Trash The Wax – A Decade of Nu Disco

As Frankie sang, ‘and now, the end is near’, which is certainly true for our long standing Trash The Wax compilation series.

Over the years, it has released some absolute dance floor smashers by established names in the art of bangers as well as emerging music makers showcasing their fresh sounds.

Initially, we wanted to establish Trash The Wax outside of the ‘kick-hat-snare stuck over a Sister Sledge sample’ style edits that were dropping weekly. The result was a collection of cuts aimed at the dance floor, which would also appeal to fans of electronic music. But all things come to an end, and with this 10th release, we are finishing on a high. As expected, there are disco ticklers aplenty from renowned party people such as Late Nite Tuff Guy, Ed Wizard, Bill Brewster, Pablo & Shoey, Danny Russell & Ronald Christoph and Yam Who.

Tracks such as Leon Sweet’s Sunny Bigler made their way into the record boxes of the likes of Luke Unabomber, Maurice Fulton and Chris Duckenfield as well as the airwaves of 6Music. Deckard’s rework of the theme from ‘The Warriors’ created scenes at ALFOS in Glasgow with Sean Johnston saying, ‘I’ve never seen as many shirtless middle age blokes go as mental as they did when that dropped!’

On a more twisted gutter style disco tip, there is Richard Seaborne’s ‘ Is This Acid?’ which topped the Paper best ever sellers on Beatport for months, Richard Norris’s ‘Glow’ is textbook space disco, the low slung sludge of James Rod & Aleito’s ‘Raum 909’ and the Speak & Spell narrated Acidisco by Andy Buchan. There are also two brand new cuts from TTW family members Boblebad & D.S.D., plus more killer music than we can shake a disco stick at. The phrase ‘all hitters and no shitters’ has never been more apt.

Ukraine International

Along with everyone else, we are horrified by the current situation in Ukraine and the unfolding human tragedy. We feel that we have to do something, so have put together this fundraising compilation, ‘Ukraine International’.

There is a track from every country on Paper, reflecting the world’s unity in such awful times. That includes Norway, Venezuela, Italy, Iceland, South Africa, Australia, Denmark, Sweden, Czech Republic, New Zealand, France, UK, Tonga, USA, Japan and Mexico.

The album will be only available for six months, with all profits from artists and Paper going to charities working in Ukraine and the developing refugee crisis.

I’m a massive fan of Paper since day one. I have all of those already but these will beat my home made vinyl rips I’m sure. Thanks to one of the best house labels that ever was.

Great release, thanks for this! Paper used to be a favourite of pretty much every house DJ in my hometown of Essen back in the day. While some of my personal Paper favourites didn’t make it there are also some tracks I didn’t know at all!

Too many killers to pick a favourite (or even two!) A fitting tribute for a Northern Powerhouse of a label. Fantastic release!

BILLY SCURRY
Absolute Aceness! What can be seen by each Album is the breadth of work, and GREAT work at that, put out by Paper. One (Crazy P) is like meeting old friends for a beer.. tracks you’ve known, played, loved over the years… Beautiful!
The other (Flash) is like finishing the beers, making the call, and going out out! Hitting the dancefloors with said friends and ending up in Barbs, on a beach or in a field or a bashment. And this is what Paper did.. Made you feel like you were part of the label/family.. you felt like they were releasing stuff for you and your mates because they knew what you were into, even before you did.
And the fact that it is still doing that now is a huge testament to the never ending search for great new music by the people/family behind the label. (we know who you are), and we thank you! BRAVO! and on to the next 25 yrs!!

STUART PATTERSON (FAITH/ THE DATE / MI SOUL RADIO)

Ah the glory days when Crazy had a penis and I used to get sent 12 inches in brown paper bags. Absolutely essential UK label.

Trash The Wax, Volume 7 has been let into the wild!

Trash The Wax # 7 has arrived freshly minted and ready to rock.

We welcome back some familiar wax trashers and Paper family members such as Bill Brewster, Daco, From Beyond and Kooky & Damoon as well as our good friends Yam Who and Jaegerossa. There are also recent entrants Andy Buchan & James Greenwood plus some new blood to the fold by way of Christoph & Danny Russell, Studebaker Hawk, Setembro, Brian SNR & R-04 who have all brought their A game to the latest collection.

Chopped up chunky disco edits sit alongside low slung Berlin basement bangers and pumped up late night party pingers. No moody, beige style beard strokers here, just straight up dancefloor.  Get it on Bandcamp for £8

The Wild Army Vol.2

The EP series returns with more outlaws from San Francisco, Mexico, Japan, Portugal and err, Nottingham causing havoc on dance floors worldwide.

Mr Tea is back, this time remixing Praus and he’s turned in a deep house, space disco banger. Tribal drums, analogue B-line and heavy atmospherics result in a 4am melon twister of a track.

Tokyo resident R-04’s ‘Kanbanwa’ is 4.38 of perfectly formed deep disco garage. Heavy beats blend with synth jams to make way for the popping bass played by Mike Watt of Minutemen and The Stooges fame. That’s right, as in Iggy Pop.

For Torn Sail’s Treasure, Tiago follows up his epic Birds remix on Claremont 56 with balearic headlights turned to full beam. A nagging synth bass bounces along as organ, effected vocals and live drums create a mood that’s just lovely.

Finally, Picotropico takes things deep with stripped back house track ‘Oslove’ that uses samples, percussion and drums to take us deep into the jungle. Halfway through, things pick as the pulsing bass starts to drive a perfect blend of early doors / late night house music.

Bill Brewster: “Really like the Tiago remix!”

DJ Rocca: “Oslove is great!”

Sean Johnston (ALFOS) : “Some crackers on here but the Praus is really doing it for me the most!”

Fingerman: “Some lovely balearic moments here!”

Chris Massey: “Kanban Wa is absolute killer but that Tiago remix is aces!!!”

James Rod: “Full support!!!”

Robot 84: “quality tunes as always, lovin the balearic downtempo tune by Torn Sail”

Trash The Wax – Volume 6

Trash The Wax returns with Volume 6 and plenty of party pumping offerings from the Paper Disco family new and old.

There are heavy hitters like HiFi Sean, Richard Norris and Bill Brewster plus one of the Paper originals Hot Toddy, all of whom deliver slam dunk selections.

Newcomers include Andy Buchan, Tony Disco, DJ Counselling, James Greenwood, The Funk District & Algy Strutt with regular Trash The Waxers Flash Atkins, Solid State, Minus The Majors, Kooky & Damoon with Courtnay Reddy, Smashed Atoms, Feverfew, From Beyond and Norway’s Diskobeistet.

Its a meltdown of house-disco-edits-boogie-chuggy-acid and its set to be unleashed.

Get ready.

The Wild Army Vol. 1

Juno   Beatport    Traxsource

The Wild Army is a new EP series by renegades, outliers, mercenaries taking house music to it’s deepest corners.

Mr Tea is first out the blocks with History of the Future. It’s deep and hypnotic, swings like a mother and has psychedelia written in to its DNA.

Leon Sweet is back with a bullet and he’s better than ever. Fifth Mode is a broken beat, synth driven head-mangler with a filtered 303 hitting the bullseye.

Manchester house music correspondent Ben Arnold AKA Benjamin Eh goes old school. Stripped back NYC beats, nagging bass, analogue synths, tight percussion and pads keep it swinging.

Finally, Bergen’s Leca is on a roll at the moment. His crisp production ties together an acid B-line, trippy vocals and some of that Norwegian space disco dust they put in their tea.

Prepare yourself, The Wild Army are here!

Hot Toddy – Nice EP. Mr Tea track is ace. proper tripped out journey.

Fingerman – Nice! Great to see Leon back in the ring. Gwan son! Yessmate :)

Anthony Mansfield – Feelin’ the slink of Mr. Tea!

Sean Johnston (ALFOS) – B-People! Yes, Mate!

Neil Diablo – History of the Future has some nice heavy loopy house vibes. That Benjamin eh track is well deep and tasty and Leca goes proper wonky. Good EP.

Chris Massey – Pffft! MASSIVE all over. Plenty to get stuck into here.

Pathaan – All great tracks but FIFTH MODE is the ONE !

George Summers (Midnight Riot) – It’s Leon Sweet for me but all are ace.

Gareth Sommerville (Athens of the North) – ‘History of the Future’ and ‘B-People’ are doing it for me.

Aldrin Zouk – Diggin’ Fifth Mode. Thanks!

James Rod – Cream!!!!!
