A New World Record Record by Hakan Lidbo and the Producers from Outer Space

Never before attempted, We Are Woodville are proud to present an unthinkable and incredulous global project born from musical insanity aand created with the sonic super powers of perhaps the globes most audacious, prolific and inventive disco pioneer and sonic artist Hakan Lidbo.

What does this all mean?

Simply put; 57 (ever tried to herd cats?) producers from our galaxy were given a short piece of music as inspiration to compose and record four bars of music. Everything was composed, arranged and then edited by Hakan Lidbo into a unique composition called ”The World Record Record (57)”.

You might think it’d be the more the merrier, 57 varieties or do more cooks spoil just that broth?

Wouldn’t 57 random dance producers just crash the groove or would they blend those beats in perfect harmony?

Our friend Hakan Lidbo has managed the experiment to find out LISTEN to the results.

All proceeds from this project go to Amnesty International.

There’s more of the same next year so buckle for all things deep and disco from the Paper family including Proviant Audio, Jamie L, 2 Billion Beats, Sleazy McQueen, Leca, Kahuun, The Treatment, Flash Atkins, Ralph Myerz and Daco plus some fresh faces.

In the meantime, here are some winter warmers to keep you moving from the Proviant Audio remix competition that ran in the Autumn. These lost out on pole position by a whisker and were so good it seemed only right to put them out into the world!

Håkan Lidbo – Let’s Rock Film

Håkan gets ready to ROCK!

Well it just doesn’t get any ‘Better Than Sex’ does it?

Tony Naylor selects We Are Woodvillle’s latest release from Håkan for the Guardian Guide reviews section and says it with a glowing review:

“Clearly the news hasn’t reached Sweden yet that we’re all beyond bored with ramped Ed Banger electro. And good thing too, as this is unexpectedly brilliant. All biblical drums, shredded metal guitar and a breakdown that consists of some drunk blokes beatboxing into a Dictaphone, its lithe, punchy and winningly daft. Now let that be the last word on the matter.”

And what a cover shot!

Håkan Lidbo is Better than SEX

Håkan Lidbo, mighty Swedish producer of all things electronic is back on with a four track EP that ranges from deep house to techno via some heavy rock landing bang slap in the middle of the dancefloor.

Hakan Lidbo - Better than SEX

First up, ‘Let’s Rock’ takes the two opposite extremes of heavy rock and techno, mashing them together producing a glitchy head banging classic destined for peak time status in your more eclectic DJ’s sets.

Next up ‘Honey Dipping’ takes things bumpier with some futuristic vocoder tinged deep house that comes across effortlessly as Daft Punk with a swing.

Sug Min Puss sounds like a bee stuck in a jar but with a 4/4 beat and big distorted bottom end that gets locked into a groove that builds up the pressure relentlessly. Magik Johnson demanded to remix this, so keep ‘em peeled for his take later in the year as those Kiwi festivals were lapping it up during their antipodean summer.

Finally, Groove On goes old school with a 909 kit and rave synth straight from ’91. Aciiieeeeed!

Håkan Lidbo is the chosen one!

Håkan takes a closer look

After weeks of deliberation, Depeche Mode have finally chosen a winner for their ‘Peace’ remix contest. Over 1000 producers entered the Beatport-sponsored remix contest, and over 51,000 votes were cast by the public making it the biggest remix competition ever held on Beatportal.

Hi name is our very own Håkan Lidbo!

Altogether the band received 20 remixes, 10 chosen by the public via a vote, and 10 chosen by Beatport’s judges (who listened to, and debated each and every remix).

Depeche Mode then listened to and scrutinized each of the 20 remixes, and spent many days deciding which mix would be crowned their eventual winner.

In the end, they found their champion.

Wahoooo!!
