Sleazy McQueen – Reconnect EP
1 We Need To Reconnect feat. Anne Montone
2 Rollin’ Me By
3 Under My Spell

Florida resident Sleazy McQueen has been making his own brand of disco for labels like Bearfunk, Hairy Claw and Whiskey Disco. With clean off-kilter production and clever samples, it’s unmistakable, fresh and funk-fuelled. Now he’s done his first EP for Paper and it’s a bobby belter!

First up, We Need To Reconnect takes 1991 and drops it firmly in 2011. It’s got Strictly Rhythm sounding bass, NYC garage piano, analogue synth lines (featuring Gazeebo Intl), disco drums and a hefty bottom end. Add Anne Montone’s vocal and it’s a floor filler that sounds like it’s from the golden age of house.

Next up is the slow burning deep hypnotic disco of Rollin’ Me By, that has hints of Tom Tom Club and Metro Area. Heavily chorused synths, nagging bass and muted guitar makes it deep and immersive plus a clever arrangement provides great dynamics.

Finally, Under My Spell takes it down a notch with a spooky keys and a vocal sample wrapped around a tuned out bass. The whole is a super deep house / disco hybrid.

He’s on tour in Europe for the whole of November so go and tip him a wink

2 Billion Beats – Musica Alfresco EP

1 The Moodymann
2 Secret Sub Disco
3 Lunar

Here is the debut EP from Manchester producers Tom Lonsborough and Col Hamilton, known as 2 Billion Beats with the Musics Alfresco EP.
Things kick things off with the uptempo ‘The Moodymann’, a funk fuelled cut of bottom heavy laden disco house. Retro synth bass with an acidic twist, rolling house rhythms and keys create a melodic yet dancefloor orientated vibe and a slightly old school feel.
Next up, ‘Secret Sub Disco’ journeys into more laid back disco territory with layers of melody washing over bubbling bass and relaxed rhythms to create a decidedly chilled vibe with some added in some acidic arpeggiated lines.
Finally IS ‘Lunar’, a deep and delightful slice of balaeric tinged house built around bass stabs, breaks and a rolling Rhodes key loop.

Bonar Bradberry : Sub disco is the one!
Craig Smith (6th Borough Project) : Can see this working well in the clubs, The Moodyman and Secret Sub Disco are my faves.
