2 Billion Beats – Spacey Disco Party EP

2 Billion Beats are back and blow me if they don’t just keep getting better. Instantly recognizable from their crisp arps, 80s synths and deceptively subtle arrangements the boys from the 80s are gathering steam nicely for their forthcoming album on Paper.

First up All Over Exposure has side chained pads, twinkling Rhodes, trippy sax, and synths weaving melodies as the track ebbs and flows for maximum dynamics. It builds steadily, gently drawing you in and before you know it you’re ‘tatas deep!

Kubrick’s Jive keeps the 80s thread going with its sounds and a shuddering chorused bass that builds to a punchy riff. It really takes off after the break with a nagging other-worldy sample, increasingly driven NRG bass and acid giving it some edge.

Finally Apollo saves the best till last by dropping the BPMs but upping the grunt . A guitar riff starts proceedings as the disco squelching bass come in, followed by a pitched vocal and sampled bass guitar combo. The 303 finishes things off nicely and its mission complete if dancefloor mayhem was the objective.

Sean Johnson (ALFOS) – A cheeky selection.

Doc L Jnr – This is a really good piece of work.

Sleazy McQueen – Digging the spaced out vibes!

Megamix Meltdown!

Mixes are like buses, you wait for one for an hour after a heavy night with your can of Red Stripe getting warm when three arrive at once. So we are with with a Rune Lindbaek set from the legendary Klub Kebbab in 2013, Flash Atkins mixing up deep house and disco to perfection and Research getting their electro boogie on.

Chris Massey – Driven Crazy / Nectar Love

After releasing music on both El Diablos Social Club and Red Laser Records, Chris Massey has gone for the Manchester record label hat trick and lands at Paper Recordings with two tracks of solid dancefloor business.

Driven Crazy takes the party underground and gives us a heads down workout with growling bassline and snappy 808 sounds before a big piano breakdown demands your respect…murky, mucky house music at its finest.

Next up Nectar Love drops the BPMs then rolls out a stomping bass & cosmic synth stabs to create a hypnotic discotheque experience that starts off subtle before building to a big hands in the air drop. If you need a “transition” tune then this is the one to reach for.

Remix support comes from two of Paper’s finest. Leon Sweet turns in the goods for Nectar Love with a jacked up take that sticks close to the source material whilst cranking up the dirt.

2 Billion Beats get to work on Driven Crazy and completely flip the script, going in deep and dropping a dark destroyer that reeks of late night in a basement. Dress appropriately.

Sleazy McQueen

Trash The Wax Vol. 1

Paper’s output has often lurked on the fringes of disco and now seemed as good a time as any to jump in with both feet, goggles and snorkel.

“Trash The Wax Vol. 1” hits the digital racks on April 3 featuring 16 original low slung, wigged out and floor heavy cuts from the great, the good, the tapped and the untapped.

Released on Paper Disco (a sub label of Paper Recordings) it follows hot on the heels of the 80s sugar rush that was Proviant Audio’s “Drift Days & Disco Nights” which found its way in to the boxes of Tensnake, Soul Clap, Horsemeat Disco and Danny Krivit as well as garnering a Norwegian Emmy nomination for the best album of 2013.

Artists on Volume 1 range from young 80s bucks like 2 Billion Beats who are pretenders to Crazy P’s crown, Manchester’s City Life DJ of the 2013 and Wet Play resident Ste Spandex, Paper’s ginger underground house assassin Richard Seaborne and Italian duo Gran Turismo.

More seasoned support comes from veterans like bootleg king Keep Schtum, Brighton’s builder of heavy grooves Fingerman, Australia’s disco vigilante Late Nite Tuff Guy and Manchester’s best kept secret Daco. And that’s just the ones we mentioned!

Running from sleazy late night jams to 80s synth and NRG to classic cut-ups, if this album didn’t make you want to go out and jump off a podium it’s time to get your hearing checked!

Dealers Choice – New York City – FREE DOWNLOAD

Spring is on the way and because that makes our hearts sing we are giving away a favourite from the back catalogue. Step forward new York City by Dealers Choice.

J.Cub & Lil’ Mark – WSM EP

J.Cub & Lil’ Mark have teamed up for three cuts of deep house that sound like they were made specifically for our Paper. Those who know the catalogue will hear flavours of Kenny Hawkes, Head Nodding Society and Dirty Jesus.

J.Cub is man about Leeds town and club owner as well as being one of the people behind Baker Street Records before leaving to concentrate on Eclectic Avenue Records. Lil’ Mark has been releasing records on labels Classic, MFF and Greenkeepers and been championed by jocks like Derrick Carter.

No Time is a shuffling groove with a grinding bassline, subtle sample and minimal keys. That is all the best house music needs and this sucks you in to its hypnotic grasp.

Next up Dark Days has a techier feel with a more straight up swing and digi bass that is layered up with an effected marimba and EFX. Again its all about sticking with the groove as it draws you in but things are keep interesting with the pad that filters in and out along with tripped out vocals

The Dark Dub strips things back even further for trippy house business!

Soul Clap – Classy for dat ass-y. Truly house music!

Ron Basejam (Crazy P) – No time works every time.

Moodymanc – Stellar stuff from two of the best smelling men in modern house music.

The Beast is Unleashed!

Flash Atkins is the fallen, broken man of yesteryear. Wasted promises and unfulfilled dreams are the price he has paid for loose women, fast drinks and low rent establishments.

But he keeps making music and some of his superpowers of sound manipulation haven’t disappeared completely.

The Beast of Flash Atkins presents some of his finest moments on Paper Recordings that have been dropping on dance floors like shots of Jaegermeister into a Red Bull.

Known detonations have been Malawi Chant blowing a hole in 2013’s final Electric Elephant Boat Party, Flood Warning having people run for the exits at the after-after party that is Vauxhall’s FIRE, Gigolo wild-pitching Faith, Did you Forget To Shine dusting up Lowlife and Justin Una Bomber demanding to know what The In Crowd was in a Manchester basement party.

There is also the brand new John The Revelator, deep house with a one foot in 2013 and the other in 1988.

Buy it and keep him in meths.

Paper Party – The Aftermath

After a blinding party with the ever-fantastic Chris Duckenfield rocking the floor and 2 Billion Beats’ live show doing the do , here are some photos of the night plus Flash Atkins’ warm-up.
