The Wild Army Q & A

We asked the mercenaries and outlaws of The Wild Army a few questions.

If you had to join an army, which one would it be?

Mr. Tea – The Army of Dreamers (ask Kate Bush).
Benjamin Eh (Ben Arnold) – The Salvation Army.
Leca Lecara – Wild Army.
Leon Sweet – Vinyl Rotator & Button Flicker – Rebel Alliance Special Forces, with Chewy by my side.

What’s the wildest night you’ve ever had out?

Mr Tea – A night that ended with an orgy with the entire cast and crew of Lord Of The Rings still in costume.
Benjamin Eh – A night out with the Salvation Army at Amnesia, 1983. I still have the trombone burns.
Leca – Must be some of them good old rave nights back in the days. Used to go proper out of hands.
Leon Sweet – Ha! I’ll save that for my memoirs

Favourite monster flick?

Mr Tea – The Thing. Easily.
Benjamin Eh – Jaws II.
Leca – Godzilla. Insane special effects!
Leon Sweet – Jaws, that dead dude in the bottom of the boat made me jump so fuckin’ hard I kneed myself in the face and cut my lip watching that film as a kid.

What bit of studio gear are you currently rocking the hardest at the moment?

Mr Tea – I just picked up a rare Soviet Synthesizer called the Opus. Pics to come.
Benjamin Eh – The Korg Minilogue.
Leca – Riding my beloved Elektron Trinity rack, Octa, Rytm & A-4.
Leon Sweet – Maschine Studio, Fifth Mode was produced entirely on it.

This fascinating film tells the story of how a group of friends in the remote cities of Bergen and Tromsø gave birth to a unique sound that went on to re-define dance music as it is known today and transform a country in the process. The generation of DJs and musicians it inspired have gone on to conquer the world. Starring Prins Thomas, Annie, Bjørn Torske, Lindstrøm, Idjut Boys and Bill Brewster amongst many others.

AFTER PARTY £8/10: 10pm – 3am
Junction House, 578 Kingsland Road, London, E8 4AH

DJs – Bjørn Torske & Mental Overdrive

The official Northern Disco Lights after-party has two of Norway’s originators playing all night long at a brand new Dalston basement venue, Junction House.

Bjørn Torske is one of the world’s most unique producers and often called the Godfather of Norwegian dance music (or more recently the Codfather) with people like Todd Terje and Prins Thomas lining up to work with him. Behind the decks he stitches together leftfield disco wonk, house, techno, psychedelia and curveballs in to a dancefloor meltdown.

Alongside is the man who can claim to have kick-started the whole scene, Mental Overdrive has also witten the sound track for Northern Disco Lights. Although best known for techno Per Martinsen can slip between genres behind the decks and in the studio and continues to get booked everywhere from LA to Berlin.

This is a rare opportunity to hear two of Norway’s groundbreaking electronic pioneers performing together all night long.

NZ resident and old friend of Paper, Dick Johnson kicks off his new label Neat Music with Maya Vanya vs. Magik Johnson’s Don’t Need No-One.
It’s forward thinking dance music for those who know, brought to you with Record Label Services and available in the shop NOW!

Leftside Wobble : The Chaos In The CBD is so deep and soulful. Pure nu skool funk flava’s.

Stevie Sole : Magik Johnson Mix DOPE

Kiko Navarro : I think is a good release for all those who like the broken beat and the sound of Bugz in the Attic.

Crispin Dior : I think the vocals sit best with Chaos in the CBD mix by a long way. This broken vibe certainly has a grip.

The Lovely Jonjo : Love love love the original. Amazing vocal bring on summer already.

Aldrin Zouk : Fab slice of primal groove! Instrumental is a perfect addition.

Danny Mac : Rob 3’s mix is the one for me. Dark and moody, love the percussion. In the box for the weekend!

Karoshi : Digging the label ethos and the MJ remix is sweet.

Stuart Patterson : Nice set of varied mixes but good to have some proper variations in there .

Nathan Detroit : Love Dick!! Nice work & original for me.

Murray Richardson : Brilliant, love this 1st release from Neat – solid as you like!
