To celebrate 30 years of Paper, we are bringing Hans-Peter Lindstrøm to Aviva Studios for a cosmic live performance of ‘The Little Drummer Boy’. First performed by Ray Conniff in 1962, and since by Frank Sinatra, Boney M, Joan Jett, Justin Bieber, Busta Rhymes, Ringo Starr and, of course, the timeless rendition by Bing Crosby and David Bowie. Voted one of the best Christmas songs of all time by The Guardian, Lindstrøm’s take features military-style drums from Martin Horntveth and ethereal vocals by the 50-piece Vålerenga Man Choir. It’s a mesmerising tattoo of drum machine loops, choral voices, hypnotic synths and space disco chords.
Come along to see the first performance outside of Norway and a world exclusive of I Feel Space with the Vålerenga Man Choir.
BoomKat: The disco maverick has extended and rearranged the magical track into a mesmerising tattoo of drum machine loops, vocodered choir voices and eerie synth drones
Resident Advisor: Kudos to Hans-Peter for degrinching me for three quarters of an hour. In the last 10 minutes or so, the little boy is joined by his big drummer daddies, their big cymbal brothers and basically the whole percussion family banging pots and pans in honour of the nativity. It even gets a disco bassline. Jesus wept.
Guardian: Like a wood fire, Lindstrøm’s epic blazes away merrily … with the final few minutes given over to a climax of crashing, echoing drums. An impressive curio.
