Take equal measures of Röyksopp’s ‘Melody AM’, Todd Terje’s ‘It’s Album Time’, Lindstrøm’s ‘I Feel Space’ with Studio Barnhus plus Magdalena Bay, and you’re getting somewhere towards the sound of ‘Om Verda Mi’, the debut album from Lakeshouse. A long-player that distils the country’s rich musical heritage and re-imagines it for the future.
The band are part of the next generation of Norwegian producers, having had their first release on Paper in 2019. The Firkanta EP laid out a template of crisp production and cheeky humour with a broad range of influences that takes in everything from Scandi-folk, classical, Italo, techno, Aphex Twin, pop and anything else suitably leftfield. They bring with them a strong visual identity in the artwork and videos, channelling a psychedelic utopian Norway.
The two singles from the album have made their way into the record boxes of Greg Wilson, Marcia Carr, Jimpster, Colleen Murphy, Kraak & Smaak, with Soul Clap calling Renates Dance ‘Euro kitsch with epic forward thinking drum programming’, which sums things up nicely!
