Paper Recordings presents ‘Low Life’

It’s that time when the stars align and Paper Recordings hold one of their infamous rave-ups on Saturday, Dec 9.

For this very special gathering, we’re heading back to Andrew Weatherall’s favourite public house-dancing spot and celebrated den of iniquity in th’ills, Todmorden‘s  The Golden Lion for the legendary Low Life. In the cockpit will be London’s finest party starters, dance music titans, celebrated authors, radio hosts, DJ wizards and jolly ace chaps, Bill Brewster & Frank Broughton with Paper’s own Chuckle Brothers Flash Atkins & Massey trying to keep up.

Low Life was created in New York in 1995 by British writers and DJs Bill Brewster and Frank Broughton, who brought the party with them when they moved back to London a couple of years later. The first London event happened in a loft on Kingsland Road in 1998, with a bizarre list of attendees that included Damon Albarn, Björk and Alexander McQueen. It soon became one of the most exciting and unique nights in the capital, famed for its curveball fancy dress themes, the choicest house and disco and its carefree, house-party vibe.

Although they stopped after 20 years, they still throw the occasional Low Life parties and we are thrilled to be hosting on of them. always deliver on the dance floor vibes with a soundtrack of all things disco-house-cosmic-wonky-groovy-boogie electronic music.

We’ve been massive fans for years and are thrilled to have them come join us!

Low Life loves you…we love Low Life!

It’s a party on a plate without having to leave your home.

Rob O’Disco

Paper Recordings’ legendary club night Robodisco is back for ‘one night only’ of mayhem as a tribute to fallen friend and Robo hero Rob ‘O Shea.
Robodisco ran in Manchester though the 90s and 00s, earning its status as one of the UK’s best clubs for underground house. Alongside residents Miles Hollway, Elliot Eastwick, Ben Davis and Erik Rug, it hosted some of the world’s finest DJs including Derrick Carter, Josh Wink, Lil Louis, Jaques Lu Cont, Romanthony, Ashley Beedle, Kenny Hawkes as well as showcasing Paper’s homegrown sounds.
This one-off event has some of Rob’s DJ friends to brig the noise and the party, so dust off the Gio-Goi, break out your whistle and start practising your moves. ITS ON!

Best of Paper 2020 – Flash Atkins Mix

While 2020 has been a massive shit sandwich with no ketchup, its been a great for music and let’s not forget that the orange lunatic got told to pack his toys and move on….see ya.
Its been a vintage year for us too us too as Paper Wave got in to its stride with brilliant albums from Popsneon, Stubb and The Secret Soul Society along with a flurry of downtempo beauties. Paper Recordings signed their first African artist in Camblom Subaria and the US represented with Mr. Tea, ThrillHammer and Ryan Kick. Paper Disco knocked it out the park with Anoraak, James Rod and Trash The Wax Vol. 8 while Denmark and New Zealand went head to head with Kennedy and Jahn Solo.
Flash Atkins dusted off his controller and blended it all for this end of year mix to see in to 2021 where we’re headed for the light. And just wait to see what we’ve got lined up for 2021….ooooooooooooooft!
Onwards.

Stubb – The Love You Once Regret feat. Charlie Sinclair Video

The fantastic video for Stubb’s The Love You Once Regret feat. Charlie Sinclair (Sylvette) was made by the super talented animator Caleb Riley.

Based around an ancient tree spirit with nods to Studio Ghibli and Pan’s Labyrinth, it is a comment on the Climate Emergency and how trees offer solution and salvation. Charlie Sinclair brings the soul to the epic, cinematic song and make sure you hold tight for the soaring chorus at the end.
